Adventures in Pallets

I have always been interested in finding news ways to use other things. When I first saw what others were doing with pallets my mind went crazy with the possibilities. I had some pallets lying around from a product shipment that were taunting me. I knew I needed to take action. On the side of my cabin I have a slope that bugs me. I also had a huge desire to start a garden. It was time to combine my two obsessions. I decided stair step some pallets. I also had a stack of barn wood that I thought would give the pallets support as well as a rustic look.

I started with a shallow pallet that didn’t have a lot of slats on top and added the barn wood to hold in place.

The next tier I used a regular pallet so I could ad some decorative elements on top and finished with another shallow pallet.

Next are the finished pallets framed in with the barn wood and added decorations.

I found this great antique cistern pump at a garage sale. I thought it would make the best planter. I took some ground cover fabric and made a half round shape to hold the dirt. The first time I used duct tape, but that soon fell with the weight of the dirt. I then used some old wire hangers and shaped them half round and then a hooked them on the ends to hold in place then added dirt and planted.

The flowers are blooming and the plants have sprouted. Now I just have to have the patience to wait for the fruits of my labor, or in this case, the vegetables!
